2/08/08: I just got back from playing in Japan with Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band. We played at the Tokyo Blue Note for six nights doing two sets a night. It was an unbelievable experience. The people there were incredibly nice and really enjoyed the music. To be able to play with a band of that caliber night after night has been a career highlight for me, literally a dream come true! Some of the musicians in the band include Eric Marienthal, Wayne Bergeron, Andy Martin, and Bernie Dressel (Brian Setzer's long-time drummer). Their previous guitarists include two of my heroes Carl Verheyen and Grant Geissman. I'm truly honored to be playing with this incredible band! 1/1/2008: This past December I got called for a session by composer Chris Walden. I had done some work for him before, mostly at his studio, but this one was over at the Fox scoring stage so I knew it was going to be different. When I walked in at 5pm I found out that Chris had been conducting a full orchestra all day long and was going to do one more short piece that was more "Americana" and required acoustic guitar. As I waited for them to finish the piece they had been working on who should walk into the control room but studio guitar legend George Doering carrying his dobro! You've heard George's playing on thousands of movies, TV shows, and albums. I got to play the entire cue sitting right next to George in our little "gobo isolation chamber" along with the entire orchestra. This was a first for me so I was a little nervous, but luckily everyone was extremely nice and put me at ease. The session was over before I knew it and went off without a hitch! |
